The CW is staying in the Katie Cassidy business. After significant roles on “Supernatural,” “Melrose Place,” and “Gossip Girl,” Cassidy has now been cast in a lead role in “Arrow,” the network’s Green Arrow pilot.

Cassidy (daughter of David Cassidy) plays Dinah Laurel Lance, a lawyer working with the very unglamorous City Necessary Resources Initiative. She’s got a romantic history with Oliver Queen, Green Arrow’s rich playboy alter ego played by Stephen Amell of “The Vampire Diaries” and “Hung” fame. In fact, according to the pilot, it was Laurel — not the trappings of wealth and luxury — that Queen missed most while he was lampooned on an island.

Of course, fans of DC Comics know that Laurel has an intriguing superhero bloodline. According to the lore, Laurel is the daughter of Dinah Drake, the original Black Canary, and is next in line to become the Black Canary herself.

The pilot was written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg. It’s set to be directed by David Nutter, who, of course, was behind the “Smallville” pilot… but don’t expect to see a similar show. Despite the DC roots, this universe is considerably darker and more adult than the one we knew in “Smallville.”

After Cassidy won us over in “Supernatural” and “Harper’s Island,” we were left unsatisfied by the writing for her characters in “Melrose Place” and “Gossip Girl.” Here’s hoping that Laurel proves to be the role that actually keeps Cassidy on our screens.

Any celebrity will tell you: there are as many style hits as there are misses when it comes to the red carpet. And Kaite Cassidy is still living down a beauty misstep she committed two years ago.

“I don’t wear red lipstick often, but I went to this event for In Style a few years ago and I had a lot going on — a bright red lipstick and smoky eyes. And I wore this leopard-print outfit. I should have toned it down!” the Us Weekly at the Under Armour Spring 2012 Women’s Event in NYC Wednesday.

“But it was a couple of years ago, and I’ve learned my lesson!” she added, saying, “I learned that you have to keep your makeup really subtle if you’re wearing a bright lip color. It’s tough, but girls just need to be confident and trust that they’re sexy and beautiful and can pull it off.”

To avoid lipstick overload, the 25-year-old relied on Clinique Chubby Sticks ($15 each, clinique.com) for a pop of color on her pout. “They’re amazing. They have really fun, juicy colors and I love that they’re really moisturizing at the same time.”

The brunette beauty also opened up to Us about how she maintains her long and lean figure: tons of Vinyasa Flow yoga, running, kettlebell workouts and weight lifting. But to avoid style missteps at the gym, the right workout gear is pretty important to her.

“I literally cannot stand the armpit fat that you get when you wear a sports bra,” she stressed to Us. “I’m always tucking it in! But right now I’m wearing Under Armour’s new Armour Bra (available in 2012) and it’s so comfortable. It’s customized to how you’re built so you don’t get any of that when you’re working out! I’m wearing their new workout pants too — they’re amazing. The legging ones are great because you can just slip on a pair of boots. I’m heading straight to the airport right now and will fly in these.”

“I try to do everything, and change it up because doing the same routine gets so boring, but I do a lot of yoga, Vinyasa flow,” Katie said before jumping into the Drenched workout NYC-based trainer Keoni Hudoba was teaching at the event. Katie even tested out Aerobarre, the fusion workout that combos boxing and ballet, for SELF! Check her out doing the moves!

“What you put into is what you get out. I do a lot of core work and cardio. I used to run a lot more than I do know but my hip stared hurting and my IT band, so doing yoga along with that and stretching your body, elongating your muscles has sort of helped out.”

Forget sounds of Enya, Katie wants her yoga instructor to be the next hot club DJ.“I wish that the music was pumping. I like yoga but I want to sweat at the same time, so I enjoy classes that are playing good music. It makes it fun.” Her playlist wish: Anything Rihanna and “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. (You heard it here first, “Club Yoga” is going to be the new thing.)

And when it comes to staying fit, Katie’s a realist (which is quite refreshing). “Every time I got to the gym I want to give 140 percent and it’s just not going to happen, and that’s ok. Don’t try to push yourself to your limit every single day.”

Her must-have gym bag stash is a change of clothes. “It’s terrible walking out of the gym and feeling wet and gross.”

Check out what Katie had to say about her workouts to SELF’s Fitness Editors.

You can take the girl out of Los Angeles, but you can’t take L.A. out of the girl, as Katie Cassidy recently demonstrated.

The blond bombshell, her hair dyed black for her role as Amanda Rowe, a bright, athletic university student who becomes embroiled in a murder plot, admits she wasn’t used to our cooler temperatures while here to shoot The New Girl.

“Working here in Victoria has been pretty nice,” said Cassidy, who was bundled up in a puffy black overcoat when not filming scenes for Michael Greenspan’s thriller that co-stars Tracy Spiridakos (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Donal Logue (The Tao of Steve). “It’s cold compared to California but that’s OK. And I think it’s kind of nice to be secluded.”

She was referring to filming that took place on a remote farm in Cowichan, where cellphone coverage was iffy at best.

“There’s not as many distractions,” said Cassidy, daughter of singer David Cassidy. “When you go on location you become like a family.”

The surprisingly tall actor (Gossip Girl, Monte Carlo) who is dating Los Angeles Kings centre Jarret Stoll, turned heads at Cowichan Bay Pub one night while hanging out with her instant family one night. It was when she asked staff if they’d mind switching the channel from the Vancouver Canucks game to the L.A. Kings home opener on Oct. 18.

“Sorry, we don’t get that game,” a staffer told Cassidy, whose boyfriend helped the Kings win 5-0 over St. Louis Blues with a goal and an assist.

“The bartender looked at her like she was from outer space,” laughed unit publicist Bill Vigars.

Maybe they should have switched the channel anyway. The Canucks lost 4-0 to the New York Rangers that night.
