Los Angeles (May 9, 2012)—Katie Cassidy (TAKEN) will topline as the title character in the mind-bending thriller feature, THE SCRIBBLER, which begins production this week in downtown Los Angeles. Starring alongside Cassidy will be Garret Dillahunt (WINTER’S BONE), Michelle Trachtenberg (Gossip Girl), Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse), Gina Gershon (KILLER JOE), Michael Imperioli (THE LOVELY BONES), Billy Campbell (The Killing), and Sasha Grey (THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE). Rounding out the supporting cast are Ashlynn Yennie (THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE), Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory), and T.V. Carpio (LIMITLESS).
THE SCRIBBLER concerns Suki (Cassidy), a young woman confronting her destructive mental illness using “The Siamese Burn”, an experimental machine designed to eliminate multiple personalities. The closer Suki comes to being “cured”, she’s haunted by a thought… what if the last unwanted identity turns out to be her?

After being marooned for five years on a remote island, former billionaire playboy Oliver Queen returns with a mysterious agenda and a lethal set of new skills that he uses in a war on crime.
Canadian actor Stephen Amell (Hung, The Vampire Diaries,90210) will portray the title role, as well as his alter ego — reformed bad boy and billionaire Oliver Queen. Katie Cassidy (Supernatural, Gossip Girl) stars as the show’s female lead Dinah Laurel Lance — also known to comics fans as the second Black Canary — a lawyer with the City Necessary Resources Initiative. Willow Holland (The O.C.) will play Thea Queen, Oliver’s celebutante younger sister who has a rebellious streak. Colin Donnell (Pan Am) will play Tommy Merlyn, Oliver’s best friend, a trust fund playboy who hopes to resume the good times now that Oliver has returned.
We’ve now received notice through multiple sources that The CW, who optioned the pilot last year in hopes of filling the superhero gap left by Smallville’s finale, has picked up the show to run during it’s Fall 2012 season. One source stated that rough cuts of the pilot episode were well received by network execs, who believe it will garner a very positive audience response. There’s no word yet how many episodes have been ordered, or when the show will begin to air. When asked to officially confirm this information, a representative for The CW stated that they have not solidified decisions regarding our fall line up at this time; but earlier reported have cited they are scheduled to reveal their selections later this month.
ARROW is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter, who is directing, from a teleplay by Kreisberg & Guggenheim, story by Berlanti & Guggenheim. Melissa Kellner Berman is co-executive producer.

The CW is staying in the Katie Cassidy business. After significant roles on “Supernatural,” “Melrose Place,” and “Gossip Girl,” Cassidy has now been cast in a lead role in “Arrow,” the network’s Green Arrow pilot.
Cassidy (daughter of David Cassidy) plays Dinah Laurel Lance, a lawyer working with the very unglamorous City Necessary Resources Initiative. She’s got a romantic history with Oliver Queen, Green Arrow’s rich playboy alter ego played by Stephen Amell of “The Vampire Diaries” and “Hung” fame. In fact, according to the pilot, it was Laurel — not the trappings of wealth and luxury — that Queen missed most while he was lampooned on an island.
Of course, fans of DC Comics know that Laurel has an intriguing superhero bloodline. According to the lore, Laurel is the daughter of Dinah Drake, the original Black Canary, and is next in line to become the Black Canary herself.
The pilot was written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg. It’s set to be directed by David Nutter, who, of course, was behind the “Smallville” pilot… but don’t expect to see a similar show. Despite the DC roots, this universe is considerably darker and more adult than the one we knew in “Smallville.”
After Cassidy won us over in “Supernatural” and “Harper’s Island,” we were left unsatisfied by the writing for her characters in “Melrose Place” and “Gossip Girl.” Here’s hoping that Laurel proves to be the role that actually keeps Cassidy on our screens.
